Guidelines

Whereas guidelines for the management of acute coronary artery disease previously recommended clinical evaluation and the use of biomarkers as a sufficient basis for deciding upon treatments, this recommendation has now been changed in all the multinational guidelines. The European Society of Cardiology guideline development group published evidence for the comparison of all available risk predictors in acute coronary syndromes and on account of superior findings for the GRACE risk model they recommended its use.14 Further, the updated ESC guideline in 2011 reinforced this recommendation.6 In the guideline of the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology the guideline group recommended the GRACE risk score as one of the key options for predicting outcome.7
